Types of Indoor Bike Trainer.

In the past few years indoor trainers have diversified and become a more exciting and user friendly training tool. A great deal of this increased interest has been generated by the rise of a new generation of smart trainers utiizing wireless technology in combination with cloud-based software (e.g. Trainer Road™) and online training environments such as Zwift™. The original and now defunct RacerMate CompuTrainer™ was one of the few serious smart trainers for a couple of decades. They now focus on their lab grade ergometer, the Velotron.

Fluid Trainers

The use of cloud based software and apps for utilizing the new generation of smart trainers has not meant that the more traditional basic fluid or magnetic trainers have become an oversized doorstop. Fluid trainers such as the CycleOps Fuild2 and the Kurt Kinetic will still work with cloud based and desktop training apps such as Zwift, Trainer Road, PerfPro. Although these socalled "dumb" trainers will not have a variable or controllable load or power curve, they do produce still .
